Chinese, first half 20th century. A heavy carved sculptural hardwood Budai, possibly of Elm wood, depicting the Laughing Buddha standing at full length wearing a long robe with full sleeves and holding a staff in left hand across his exposed rotund belly and a large cloth sack on right shoulder supported by his arm bent at the elbow, his wide round face with open mouthed smile exposing teeth below wide nose and almond shaped eyes. Marked to underside with two lines of black calligraphic marks. Approximately 20" x 9" x 8".
