Late 19th Century. Signed lord., A. Tabard. Depicting a scantily clad maiden, poised upon a floating tablet, before a tall leafy vine, within a fluted gilt frame. Measuring 16” by 9”, overall 19 ¼” by 12 ½”. (Cond: one with two minor firing cracks to surface, the other with one minor imperfection, any marks on reverse concealed beneath glued fabric) (300/400) Note: The artist, A. Thabard, responsible, probably Adolph Martial Thabard, (French 1831-1905). Thabard studied under Duret one of the finest sculptors and teachers of the 19th century. Thabard exhibited at the Paris Salons as early as 1863. He was the recipient of numerous accolades and medals in 1863,1868,1872, including the silver medal in the 1889 ‘Exposition Universelle in Paris’. In 1884 he was awarded ‘Chevalier of the Legion d'Honneur’.
