the first of flattened rectangular form, painted to one side depicting two scholars studying a manuscript by candlelight, the reverse with a man and a woman reading the pages of a letter by candlelight, signed Ma Shaoxuan beside the poetic inscription, the second of elongated quadrilateral baluster form, decorated on all four sides with scenes on raised panels, two of the panels depict the immortal Zhong Kui with a bat, the other two panels depict mountainous landscapes painted in grisaille, the third of flattened shield form, carved through black overlay to a clear body with carved turtle decorations on both sides, having another inside painted bottle set within the clear body, decorated with a scene of two musicians on one side and two monks on the reverse. Height of tallest 3 1/2 inches.
