(American, 19th Century) Portrait of a Man oil on canvas 29 x 24 inches (visible). Property from the Collection of Dr. Robert Steinberg, East Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, Illinois In good, stable condition consistent with age. Canvas is re-lined. Craquelure throughout. General layer of grime to the surface of the canvas. Examination under UV light reveals a slightly uneven varnish, as well as scattered areas of retouch, particularly evident on the subject's head and body, as well as around the perimeter of the visible canvas where it meets the frame.
