attributed to nathaniel appleton, salem, ma, circa 1800 having a bow front top above four graduated long drawers, raised on splayed legs. Height 36 x width 39 1/2 x depth 21 1/4 inches. In overall good, stable, usable condition. Having a fairly even finish throughout with scattered light surface wear (nicks and scratches) consistent with age and use. Surface scratching a little heavier to the left side of the top. Drawers all open and close smoothly, none with locks. Tight age split to left side and to back left foot. Brasses replaced. A card affixed to the inside of the top drawer reads "American chest c. 1790 / Nathaniel Appleton Salem, Mass. / Brasses: Imported from Birmingham, England by Hamlin & Jones, Providence, RI."
