franz mayer, vienna, circa 1820 cast as an oak tree surmounted by a bust of Bacchus wearing a garland of grapes, the circular enameled dial with Arabic numeral hours and signed Franz Mayer in Wien, raised on a rectangular base ending in paw feet. Height 13 1/2 inches. Property from the Collection of The Steins, Glencoe, Illinois Clock in overall good, stable, complete condition. Case intact without dents or loss, having fairly even bright patina throughout with only minor surface wear. Enamel dial mostly intact but with some tight hairline cracks near the 3 and 9, some additional minor chipping near edges and light surface scratching. Glass to dial intact. Works appear complete with pendulum and two bells, no key. Back door opens fairly smoothly but has some minor dents and is discolored. Pendulum hangs from a silk suspension. Clock takes a wind in all three holes, strikes on the hour and quarters, and tries to run but won't consistently. Additional images available upon request.
