attributed to edouard lievre, paris in the Chinese taste, each baluster form stem decorated with peonies and butterflies and issuing two pierced candle arms in the form of ruyi clouds, raised on an openwork circular foot. Height 13 5/8 inches. In decent, stable condition overall. Each with deposits of yellow puddy to the candle cups and deposits of candle wax to the bodies. One example wobbles slightly and has a candle cup with a missing liner. Each with surface wear in the form of minor nicks and scratches to the gilt bronze. Enameling largely intact on both examples, although one has an area of abrasions/surface loss approximately 1 1/8 x 1 1/4 inches in size. Examination under UV light reveals one minor area of retouch to the enameling on one example, and several minor areas of retouch to the enameling on the other.
