Spode (English, founded 1767), circa first quarter 19th century. Five pieces of early earthenware comprising a circular serving bowl, a drainer and three egg coddler cups, all with chinoiserie decoration printed in blue underglaze and enameled in red over the glaze. The circular bowl with scalloped rim and the oval drainer both decorated with foliage and cartouches containing a pagoda and the three egg cups with red and blue band on white foot. The bowl with impressed SPODE and artist marks, the remainder unmarked aside from worker marks. Approximate height of bowl 2.25", diameter 10.25". Approximate width of drainer 14.5", depth 10". Approximate height of cups 1.75". Provenance: Property from the Private Collection of Mrs. Nancy Rutledge Pogue, Blufton, South Carolina (wife of Mr. William Pogue, who served as an heir to the H. & S. Pogue Company department store chain based in Cincinnati, Ohio).
