Spode (English, founded 1767), circa first quarter 19th century. A rare early cream or sauce earthenware tureen and ladle having a chinoiserie "clobbered" decoration printed in blue underglaze and enameled in red over the glaze, the cartouches enclosing a pagoda design within a enameled brown rim. Sauce boat is affixed to underplate and comes with matching ladle. Apparently unmarked aside from worker's mark. Approximate height 6.5", width 8", depth 4.87". Approximate length of ladle 6.87".
