Dogon people, early 20th century. A carved polychromed and patinated hard wood plank mask (sometimes called great mask or Sirige), having pierced diagonal striations simulating feathers, base of ovoid form having figural elements including eyes, nose and mouth, with incised tribal patterning throughout, apparently unmarked. Approximate diameter at base 12"; height 65"; at widest point 16".
