Continental, likely French, late 19th/early 20th century. A converting mahogany Empire style game table, having a folding, rectangular top with a pressed fluted gilt brass edge, swiveling and opening to reveal a red leather game surface centered with a checker or chess board, over a rectangular apron, inset with one long panel flanked by two short panels to each side, each stained black with a pressed gilt brass border, the two short sides each with a sliding drawer, on four tapering, fluted legs, each with a gilt metal banded top, and terminating in a gilt brass toe cap. Apparently unmarked, with Sotheby's Arcade sticker to underside. Approximate height 29.9", width (open) 36", width (closed) 18", depth 36".
