French, early to mid 19th century. A pair of Provincial carved oak armchairs, each with squared, outwardly tapering stiles with incised carving, with three os de mouton ladder back rails, with hand carved arm rests, rush seats, four squared legs with incised decoration, and double box stretchers with rounded rails. Each with a removable, overstuffed ivory Belgian linen cushion with red floral motifs. Apparently unmarked. Approximate height 32.625", width 22.625", seat depth 18.25", seat to floor 20.5". Provenance: From the Estate of a prominent publisher and philanthropist, Greenwich, CT.
