French, last half 19th century. A Louis XVI style encrier a la Chinois, having a black lacquered cartouche shaped panel with japanned chinoiserie hunting scenes, mounted in a scrolled acanthine and rocaille gilt bronze base, with three mounted carved and lacquered inkwells painted with gilt chinoiserie scenes of cranes, each mounted on a scalloped gilt bronze floral base and topped with a pierced and foliated acanthine lid with pinecone knobs, two with glass liners (one missing). R.H. Macy's sticker to underside. Approximate height 5", width 14.5", depth 11.25".
