English, early 20th century. An Edwardian satinwood and mahogany carlton house desk, having a U-shaped form, the sliding writing surface inset with gilt and tooled leather, fitted with upper storage, including a central, locking compartment flanked on either side by three small drawers, the corners with locking storage compartments with upper letter slots, with two serpentine side compartments with hinged lids, opening to reveal interior document storage, over a conforming apron with a bow-fronted central drawer and two small side drawers, on squared, tapering legs. Decorated in all-over neoclassical Adamesque motifs, including a foliated roundel with a putto, swags of roses, laurel wreaths, acanthus scrolls, and bellflower drops. Apparently unmarked.
