French, mid to late 19th century. A pair of French Louis XV style giltwood fauteuil chairs, each having a serpentine crest rail carved with with a central rocaille, flanked on either side by carved flowers, over an upholstered back with acanthine stiles and a rocaille back rest, with two fauteuil arm with scrolled handholds, over an upholstered serpentine front seat, with a conforming carved seat rail with a central rocaille, on four incurvate legs with acanthine knees terminating in whorl feet. Upholstered in Aubusson style floral motif needlepoint fabric. Apparently unmarked. Approximate height 39.5", width 25.75", seat depth 18", seat to floor 21.5".
