Meissen (German, founded 1708), mid to late 20th century. An enameled porcelain pug dog, wearing a blue collar with painted gilt initials reading H.G.V.B. for Graf Heinrich von Brühl, resting on a purple pillow with scrolled floral decoration and painted gilt edging. Manufacturer's mark to underside, stamped 157K and incised 7889. Approximate height 10", width 9", depth 5". Provenance: From the Private Collection of the Owner of Chelsea House. Note: Graf Heinrich von Brühl (1700-1763) was a Polish statesman and great patron of the arts, and particularly Meissen. He was believed to have owned the largest collection of Meissen in the world.
