British, possibly Irish, late 19/20th century. A pair of carved mahogany style side chairs, one later and presumably carved to match, each having a fluted serpentine crest rail, carved with a central scalloped, stippled and acanthine crest, over a interlaced pierced splat, the stiles of the later chair carved with stylized leaves and bellflowers, each with a removable upholstered seat cushion over a plain seat rail, with cabriole front legs with acanthine knees, terminating in claw and ball feet. Later chair with incised "G." Approximate height 39.5", width 22", seat depth 16", seat to floor 19".
