An Italian-made 800 silver reliquary containing a relic of St. Thérèse of Lisieux. Born Marie Françoise-Thérèse Martin, the Roman Catholic French Discalced Carmelite nun died at the age of 24 from tuberculosis and was canonized 28 years after her death by Pope Piux XI who called her "the greatest saint of modern times". St. Therese of Lisieux is the patron saint of aviators, florists, illnesses, and missions. Interior verso of theca bears red wax seal securing red threads, this being the typical authenticator of true Catholic relics. Marked to back of theca "800" and "20 GE" within a cartouche, this the maker's mark for Soc. Oliveri Giuseppe di Antonio of Campo Ligure in Genova who operated 1947-1971. Note: Bids placed on this lot are for the reliquary only, the relics will be given to the successful purchaser at no charge. Approximate diameter of reliquary 1".
