A silver runners-up medal awarded to British tennis legend Fred Perry in 1931 for winning the Men's Doubles championship at The Lawn Tennis Hard Court Championships of Great Britain. The front of the medal features a female figure kneeling in front of a tennis net. The back of the medal is engraved "1931/ Men's Doubles,/ Runners-Up,/ F.J. Perry,/ J.S. Olliff." Olliff was Perry's doubles partner at the tournament, and they competed as doubles partners in many tournaments throughout their careers. Perry is widely considered the greatest player in the history of lawn tennis and won the Men's Singles title at Wimbledon in 1934, 1935 and 1936. The medal has a weight of 28 grams and a diameter of 38 mm. It bears the maker's mark of Fattorini & Sons Ltd. and the hallmark of Birmingham 1930. Also included in the lot are a signed black and white image of Perry, a 1937 "British Sporting Personalities" cigarette photo-card of Perry, and a copy of the book The Groundwork of Lawn Tennis (London: Methuen & Co.
