A 1936 Olympic torch, used in the 1936 Olympic Torch Relay. The polished stainless steel torch has a map of the relay route engraved into the torch handle featuring the cities that were main stops on the relay route. Engraved near the top of the handle are a German eagle over the Olympic rings and "Fackel Staffel Lauf Olympia Berlin 1936," which translates to "Olympic Torch Relay Berlin 1936." Engraved into the platform of the torch are the words "Organisations-Komitee für die XI. Olympiade Berlin 1936 Als Dank dem Träger," which roughly translates to "Organizations Committee for the XI Olympics, Berlin 1936, to thank the support." The 1936 Summer Olympics Torch Relay was the first of its kind, following the reintroduction of the Olympic flame at the 1928 Games. It pioneered the modern convention of moving the flame via a relay system from Greece to the Olympic venue. The 1936 relay was conducted in the countries of Greece, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Hungary, Austria, Czechoslovakia and Germany. Height, 10 5/8 inches Categories:
