Ara Güler (Turkish, b. 1928) Ottoman tombstones in the Merkezfendi cemetery in Istanbul. Signed "Ara Guler" in black ink l.r. and in pencil on the mount l.r., stamped with the photographer's studio label on the verso at center. Gelatin silver print, image/sheet size 15 1/4 x 10 3/8 in., matted, unframed. Condition: Minor crimps l.r. corner, affixed to mount at upper third. Provenance: Acquired from the artist in Turkey in the 1980s by the current owner. N.B. A member of Magnum Photos since 1961, Güler is an Armenian/Turkish photojournalist who captured Turkey's political transformation in the 1950s.
