Aaron Willard Mahogany Tall Clock, with Case Attributed to Henry Willard, Boston, Massachusetts, c. 1820, dome-top case with reeded freestanding columns flanking the glazed dial opening, circular holes in a diamond pattern on hood sides in the Henry Willard manner, "Osborne" roman numeral dial signed in gold leaf on the reverse side of a glass in the date aperture, Aaron Willard and Boston in ink on the dial surface, shell spandrel decoration, moon's age in the arch and seconds bit, figured mahogany veneered rectangular door, base section with banded inlay, flat step and an adaptation of French feet, eight-day time and rack strike movement with recoil escapement powered by two red-painted tin weights and regulated by a red-painted pendulum rod and brass-faced bob, ht. 89 in. Note: According to the history inside the waist door of the clock, this clock was purchased in an antiques shop in Buenos Aires, Argentina, by American residents George and Dorothy Murphy. The clock left Argentina with the Murphys in 1973 for Columbus, Georgia. Other Willard tall clocks with Henry Willard cases have been found with early South American histories.
