John Poole Eight-day Chronometer, London, c. 1860, No. 2925, 4 1/2-in. silvered dial with subsidiary seconds and up/down indicator dials and marked John Poole , Maker to the Admiralty , 57 Fenchurch St. , London. 2925 , chain fusee movement with helical hairspring, split bimetallic balance fitted with "Poole's Auxiliary Compensation," and spring detent escapement, in a gimbaled brass bowl, all in a glazed, three-tier, mahogany box with brass carrying handles and brass maker's plaque, ht. 8 in. Note: "Poole's Auxiliary Compensation" controls the outward expansion of the balance wheel rim to help eliminate excessive, rate affecting compensation in cold temperatures.
