Engraved Powder Horn Belonging to Jeremiah Eastman, c. 1758, horn with light engraving, marked "IEREMIAH EASTMAN his Horn Sept/SEPTE yE 12 1758" with cross-hatched lines and foliate designs, wooden stopper, and pine plug marked "I E," overall lg. 17 in. Provenance: Sold to benefit the preservation of the collections of the Danvers Historical Society. Note: The horn also bears the inscription "fort AT West Morland." This was one of a string of forts located in Westmorland, New Hampshire, along the Connecticut River for the purpose of protecting New England from Indian raids.
