British 7th Regiment of Foot Belt Plate with a Twenty-nine-hole Cartridge Pouch, c. 1771, rectangular brass plate with single hook and hourglass belt attachment, the front engraved "7" fixed to a buff leather belt fragment stitched to a longer section of buff leather belt attached to the back of a twenty-nine-hole British cartridge pouch, the box with leather internal and external flaps, stitched construction, access to the underside of the block from an external opening, belt plate ht. 2, wd. 2 13/16, pouch ht. 6, wd. 10 1/4, dp. 2 3/4 in. Provenance: Collection of George Snook, M.D. Note: An invoice from Jonathan Hume to Lord Robert Bertie, Colonel of the 7th Regiment of Foot, documents improvements made to the accoutrements of the 7th's accoutrements in 1771. The invoice notes two separate payments for work on belts. On January 31, 25 pounds was charged for "Repairing 200 Setts of old Accoutrements & putting new Plates to the Waist Belts & new Buckles to ye Pouches." Then on March 13, 12 pounds, 10 shillings was charged for "Altering 100 Setts of old Accoutrements & putting new Plates to ye Waist Belts & new Buckles to ye Pouches."
