Engraved Colt Model 1851 Navy Revolver, c. 1851, serial number 5763 (all matching), walnut grips, silver-plated brass trigger guard and backstrap, engraved "J.H. Lane, Lawrence, Kt.," steel frame marked "COLTS/PATENT," engraved cylinder scene, and the top of the barrel marked "ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW.YORK CITY," barrel lg. 7 1/2, overall lg. 13 1/2 in. Note: James H. Lane fought in the Mexican War, and was a congressman from Indiana. He moved to the Kansas Territory in 1855, and was involved in the abolitionist movement. During the Civil War, he raised the "Kansas" brigade, and became a General in 1861. He was the target of the Lawrence Massacre, and after the war in 1866, he shot himself.
