Kotzebue rounded Cape Horn, putting in at Chile, Easter Island, the Marshall Islands, Hawaii, and following the Pacific North American Coast northward in search of a northwest passage. The first scientific account of the California poppy (Eschscholzia californica) is published here, along with information about Native Americans, missionaries, and natural history.
