Book Slate, Codex-format, American, Late 19th Century. Three slates in wooden frames bound as a book with boards, produced by E.W. Bettinson, Bookbinder, of 7 Brattle Street, Cambridge, a firm that was advertising in the Harvard Echo circa 1881 as a "University bookbinder"; a fire devastated their building on Brattle street in 1898; slates made by A.W. Faber, edges of each slate bound with marbled paper, boards covered in textured cloth, spine perished, along with structural binding, the original notes, a French lesson, are still inscribed over the slates, the frame of the final slate cracked, 9 1/4 x 5 1/2 in.
