Whitman, Walt (1819-1892) Signed Carte-de-visite, May 1880. Small-format carte-de-visite by Broadbent & Taylor of Philadelphia, signed and dated in ink by Whitman at the foot, the origins of the photo are unknown, the Walt Whitman Archive suggests that this image may have been captured in the summer of 1880 by the Edy Brothers of London, Ontario, Canada; the May date on this example would mean it was taken a bit earlier, 2 1/2 x 4 in.
