Kennedy, John F. (1917-1963) Two Signed Letters, Two Inaugural Invitations. Typed letter signed, 31 August 1960, to Zeake W. Johnson Jr. (1910-1992), Sergeant at Arms for the House of Representatives, expressing appreciation for taking time to meet with Kennedy and Johnson for breakfast on the previous day, signed "Jack," old folds, on Kennedy for President letterhead, 9 x 6 in.; typed letter signed, 27 August 1963, on White House letterhead, marked "Personal and Confidential" to Joseph Duke and Zeake Johnson, granting their request for 1,000 military troops at Fort McNair, to assist the Capitol police in connection with the August 28th March on Washington at which Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his "I have a dream" speech. "In response to your letter of August 26 requesting quartering of 1,000 military troops at Ft. McNair to assist Capitol Police in connection with the August 28 march in the event they are needed, I wish to advise that the necessary arrangements have been made"; old folds, accompanied by the original typed envelope, old folds, good, 10 1/2 x 8 in.; [together with] official invitations to the inauguration ceremonies of 1961 and 1965.
