Michel Lafarge Volnay Clos des Chenes 1999 Cote de Beaune "Even though this is now 17 years into its evolution, this is still a very serious wine that with air displays only moderate secondary fruit development on the gorgeously perfumed, spice and discreetly earthy nose. The robust and full-bodied flavors don't appear to have budged much since my initial review as the supporting tannins are still notably firm on the wonderfully long, palate coating and deep finish. This muscular and overtly robust effort is definitely a big wine and one that will see its 30th birthday without difficulty and for my taste, I would be strongly inclined to give this at least another 8 to 10 years in the cellar. If you are inclined to try a bottle now, I would absolutely suggest giving it 30 to 60 minutes in a decanter first. In sum, this is a beautiful effort that should age gracefully for years. Multiple, and consistent, notes including several recently and save for one bottle that was exceptionally advanced, my impressions have been consistent." Burghound, 96 pts. 06/16 6 bottles
