Tin-glazed Earthenware Soldier Tile, England, c. 1756-57, probably Liverpool, attributed to John Sadler workshop, brown manganese print decorated with elaborate half-blossom and foliate border to an octagonal cartouche with depiction of a uniformed man standing to smoke his pipe, and leaning against a rocaille that supports his tankard, a tasseled halberd by his feet, 4 7/8 x 5 in. Provenance: The Troy Chappell Collection; Jonathan Horne.
