Portrait of Little Jimmy Dickens I was a huge fan of Little Jimmy Dickens in the 50's & 60's. My best friend, Betty Miles painted this portrait of Jimmy for me as a Christmas present in 1967. I had heard on the radio that Jimmy was going to be a DJ for 3 days at a radio station in Des Moines, Iowa in 1968. I had a picture of me taken holding this portrait of Jimmy and sent the photo and a letter to Jimmy to this radio station in Des Moines. I just told him what a huge fan I was and how much I loved his music. He read my letter on air and said "I should be holding Mona instead of her holding me." In July 1971 I was so excited that Jimmy's show was coming to my hometown in Indiana. I bought tickets immediately. After the show I went back stage to see if I could take a picture of him and did and as I was walking away I turned and ask him if he remembered getting a letter and picture of a woman holding a portrait of him when you worked as a DJ in Des Moines. He looked at me and asked if I was that girl and I said yes. "Come on my bus I want to show you something. " I followed him and sat down he pulled the picture from his briefcase. He said "I've searched for your face in every crowd, I've written you letters from Italy to Spain and from all over the world but I never mailed any of them. " "Now that I found you I'm never going to let you go." That was the beginning of our courtship and love affair. We were married on December 24, 1971 and were married for 43 years Read more…
