This painting, along with lot 65, were given to Dr. Saffer by the artist in lieu of payment for medical services. Burliuk was a friend of the Saffer family and would also paint Dr. Saffer's wife, Naomi Harris Saffer, which is lot 69 in this auction. Sold with a signed letter of provenance from the family of Dr. Saffer.
