A collection of approximately 15 music history and music theory books previously owned by Frank Zappa, including Conlon Nancarrow : Selected Studies for Player Piano , Peter Garland, editor (Washington, DC: Peter Garland, 1977); Notation in New Music by Erhard Karkoschka (New York: Praeger, 1972); Voices by Anita Kerr (New York: MCA Music, 1972); and several music books from the Chaffey College Library where Zappa briefly attended in 1960, as well as a textbook on astronomy inscribed in pencil to the front endpaper "Frank V. Zappa/ 45438 Third St. E./ Lancaster Calif." and containing a typed letter from the labor recruitment company "Crest Personnel" dated February 4, 1961, inviting Zappa to apply as a propulsion engineer.
