A jade green embellished satin leotard worn by Marilyn Monroe while singing “That Old Black Magic” in a saloon scene in Joshua Logan’s Bus Stop (20th Century, 1956). The film was based on William Inge’s play. The boned leotard has black netting overlay to a nude wire brassiere, jet-like sequins in a fish scale pattern, scalloped gold bullion fringe trimmed with topaz-colored faceted glass. A bias label inscribed “Marilyn Monroe” and a 20th Century label inscribed “A-769-03” are present. Post-production alterations are present. The film’s costume designer is Academy Award winner William “Billy” Travilla. Monroe received a Golden Globe nomination for Bus Stop , and the film was nominated for the Best Motion Picture-Musical or Comedy Golden Globe.
