Embroidered Silk Semiformal Dragon Robe, China, late 19th/early 20th century, blue silk ground embroidered with nine dragons chasing pearls at the front, shoulders, back, and inside flap, amidst clouds, bats, and shou symbols, all in couched metallic thread and with a crashing wave and lishui border, lg. 46 1/2 in. Provenance: Purchased by Edmund Newton Harvey (1887-1959), a Princeton professor, on one of his research trips conducted in 1917 or 1919.
