Continental, early 20th century. A pair of large Art Nouveau figural four light bronze lamps depicting Eros, the Ancient Greek god of life and desire, nude within a landscape perched upon a half column with long flower stems arching over him from back to front adorned with leaves and terminating in many petaled flower blossoms as light sockets, many with remnants of gilt layer, the figure reaching down with left hand holding a torch above a second fallen torch of Thanatos, Eros' mythological foil as god of death and destruction, in suggestion of victory of life over death, altogether raised on an integral square base with chamfered front corners with plaque to front of each inscribed "Eros". Taller approximate height 26", width 15", depth 14". Shorter approximate height 24", width 17", depth 16".
