j. p. kroese, amsterdam, mid-18th century the hood surmounted by giltwood figures of Atlas and heralding angels, with a fretwork frieze and colonettes flanking the door, the silvered chapter ring signed J.P. Kroese, Amsterdam, with a secondary dial for seconds and apertures for date and day of the week, all beneath a painted moon phase dial, the trunk door inlaid to show a bird above a gilt metal lenticle depicting a basket of flowers, the whole raised on claw and ball feet. Height overall 116 1/2 inches. Property from the Estate of Pieter Christiaan Jongeneel, Clarens/Montreux, Switzerland In overall good, stable, functioning condition. Case good with fairly even finish throughout. Some light surface wear (nicks and scratches) consistent with age. Glass to hood and trunk intact. Veneers to case mostly intact with some tight age splits and minor areas of loss, most noticeable at the center inlay near bottom of trunk. Some splits to fretwork on hood with some losses. Clock works and strikes on the hour and the half. Unsure as to duration or accuracy of movement. Striking on ten vertical graduated musical bells and chiming on two horizontal bells.
