19th century, after the 18th century model the circular dial signed Berthoud a Paris and having Roman numeral hours and Arabic numeral minutes, the case cast as a putto supporting the clock formed as a pocket watch, raised on toupie feet. Height 13 inches. Property from a Chicago Collector, Formerly of Lake Forest, Illinois Provenance: By repute, Collection of Archduke Friedrich of Austria Accompanied by a testimonial from Kunsthandlung M. Novakovic, written in Kurrentschrift and dated 1957, which states: "I hereby testify that the French mantel clock, described below, formerly stood in the Weilburg Palace in Baden bei Wien and comes from the possession of Archduke Friedrich." Clock winds, runs and strikes but has not been tested for accuracy or duration. Case is signed Eugene Hazart, Paris, at the back. Staff in figure's right hand is bent. Scratches consistent with age. Drum works are slightly loosened from back door and front cover. Areas of dull/spotty patination.
