Ansonia Clock Company (American (Ansonia, Connecticut and Brooklyn, New York),1851-2006), circa last quarter of 19th century. Mantel clock composed of black slate with gilt incised floral, leaved and scrolled decoration on stacked rectangular architectural body with large circular clock face with black Roman numerals, gilt metal borders (egg and dart and beaded) behind glazed hinged doors, bottom of dial marked "MANUFACTURED BY THE ANSONIA CLOCK C. NEW YORK, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA". Sides of clock with patinated metal with bronzed patina mounts in the form of Bacchanalian facial masks, overall supported on four scrolled foliate feet. Movement stamped on back with manufacturer "ANSONIA CLOCK CO. U.S.A. NEW YORK", "PATENTED JUNE 18, 1882". Clock accompanied with key for winding movement. Approximate height 10.5", width 15.5", depth 7.75". Provenance: From a Private Collection in Decatur, Georgia.
