American, mid to late 19th century. A Second Empire style mahogany recamier, having an upholstered sloping shaped seat back with a rounded crest rail, with scrolled arms, one dropping to form a foot rest, the seat rail and arm supports carved and mounted with foliated gilt ormolu, on scrolled legs. Upholstered in black fabric with gold fleur-de-lis. Apparently unmarked. Approximate height 36", width 56", seat depth 18", seat to floor 17".
