Palais Royal, second half 19th century. Whimsical and mechanical egg shaped cobalt overlay cut to clear perfume casket with ornamental lever at the top, when pushed downward, it releases the catch that opens the casket to reveal the two crystal perfume vials with faceted stoppers and silver collars hallmarked possibly for Antoine Guillemin (French, active 1784-1803). Casket is mounted to oval piece of cream colored alabaster and decorated to the top with ormolu embellishment and outlined with ormolu beading. Approximate height 6.37", width 3.5", depth 2.5".
