American, last quarter 19th century. A pair of 19th century American Folk Art polychromed carved wood wall plaques depicting the heads of African American men bearing their teeth, their heads mounted to simulated log crests reminiscent of Black Forest plaques, one with inscription "Ebenssee 1886", the other with indistinct inscription "...25 Juli'. Each overall approximately 6.25" x 5.5" x 4". Note: Heads reminiscent of figural renderings of the Ejagham peoples of Africa (sometimes called Ekoi peoples).
