Chinese, Qing Dynasty, (1644-1911). Fine carved circular shaped scholar's inkstone, probably carved from Duan stone, the thick and heavy slab carved with smooth sunken palette emptying into a cloud shaped ink-pool, flanked to the back by carved smiling recumbent foo dogs or shishi's, both appearing to be scratching their heads with hind leg and centered with embroidered ball representing supremacy over the world. Apparently not marked. Approximate height 4.8", diameter 9.5".
