Chinese, 20th century. An interesting Chinese blue and white porcelain ginger jar, in the Tibetan Buddhist style, decorated all over with Sanskrits, crashing waves, Ruyi clouds along with the "Eight Auspicious Astamangala" with unusual protruding squares along diameter of the shoulder decorated with flowers. Jar is marked on interior base and under lid as well as the outer base which is unglazed. Approximate height 7.8", base diameter 7". Note: This jar is a replica of a porcelain jar that was stored in the Imperial palace of the Qing Dynasty. The "Eight Auspicious Astamangala" represents the primary ritual utensils of Tibetan Buddhism. Eight Auspicious Astamangala, which include Dharma wheel, white conch shell, precious parasol, white banner, lotus flower, vase of great treasure, golden fish and knot of eternity, are regarded as the auspicious symbols in Tibetan Buddhism.
