American, second half 19th century. A silverplate and engraved colorless glass cracker or biscuit jar with silver lid embossed with ribbon tied leafy foliage and mounted to each side with beaded handle, the glass cut with a finely detailed engraving of draping swags suspended from ribbon-tied bow-knots and hung with tassels, the whole decorated with star or snowflake-like devices on a circular foot with 26 rays under foot. Apparently unmarked. Approximate size 8.5", diameter of mouth 4.75". Provenance: From the Estate of Mary L. Haugk, Lawrenceville, Georgia.
