An original cover art by Curt Swan (pencils) and George Klein (inks) for DC Comics’ 80-Page Giant #2 Jimmy Olsen Annual (DC Comics, 1964). This multi-panel cover features a number of “what if” scenarios for Jimmy Olsen and his “greatest adventures with his pal, Superman!” The issue features nine stories, including “Jimmy Olsen’s Wedding!” This issue is the second “80-Page Giant” series. The average page count for a regular series comic book was 32 pages, so 80 pages was substantially larger in length and, hence, a special issue in both size and content. The final published artwork for this lot shows the words “80 pg GIANT” in a burst over this original artwork’s “GIANT” at the top (though with the published cover one can still see the outline of the original “GIANT” along the edges of the burst). This feature has been discussed within the collecting community, and this original artwork affirms the last-minute change in branding for the first of the “80-Page Giant Magazine” series of annuals. Swan, a prolific comic book artist, was considered the quintessential Superman artist, not just during the Silver Age but throughout the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. He was inducted into the Will Eisner Hall of Fame in 1997 and was an honoree in DC Comics’ “Fifty Who Made DC Great.” This is an original artwork featuring DC Comics’ long-running “Giant” series of special issues in the midst of the Silver Age of Comic Books, which ran from 1956 to 1970. 20 by14 1/4 inches PROVENANCE From
