A second edition of the United States Air Force Ready Reference handbook for the AMU or Astronaut Maneuvering Unit, published in 1966. The AMU was designed to allow astronauts to venture outside of their space capsules. It was planned for the AMU to be tested during Gemini9A but after exiting the capsule astronaut Eugene Cernan nearly failed to reach the unit because of condensation inside of his helmet and extreme exhaustion resulting from his efforts to keep from drifting into outer space. Included with the handbook is a collection of additional NASA ephemera: a Gemini Agenda Target press handbook; a stack of vintage NASA fact sheets; a 1965 press release background briefing on the Orbital Mechanics of Rendezvous Missions; a pamphlet about the X-15 Project; a 1962 press release packet in a vintage NASA folder; an events timeline card for the Columbia Space Shuttle, STS-55; a 1962 pamphlet on Meteorological Satellites by Morris Tepper; a 1962 pamphlet on space exploration by Edgar Cortright; and several additional pamphlets as well as offset images of moon landing photographs. 12 1/2 by 9 3/4 by 4 inches, overall Categories:
