Reverse-painted Glass and Molded Walnut Courting Mirror in Frame, northern Europe, late 18th century, the crest centering a basket of flowers, the sides inset with orange and white marbleized glass, all set into a conformingly shaped backboard frame, (losses), overall ht. 18 3/4 in. Note: A clipping attached to the back from the Winter 1974 issue of The Bulletin from Johnny Cake Hill describes courting mirrors, and is inscribed in pen in part "This mirror was found in one of the upstairs 'blind' bedrooms of the Grinnell house."
